Voip Prerequisites

In order to use a VoIP phone using this technology, the user must have a connection to a network that uses the IP communication protocol, as call data will be transmitted over this protocol.

It is not necessary for this network to necessarily be an Internet network, as there are many private networks that use this service running on their Intranet (internal network), this provides greater security for the customer, it does not depend on an Internet connection, but using The service in this way has limitations such as making calls to a PSTN network or communicating with any other device outside the network.

Once the client has the network available, the next requirement is that there is a server on this network with the VoIP telephony service running. This service is also called virtual PBX, that is, it is software created that simulates old physical PBX equipment that performs all the tasks of a traditional PBX, however it does not require specific physical PBX equipment, even some manufacturers link This service is a hardware technology, there is no specific physical equipment, it can be run on a common computer, such as a VoIP server.

It is also necessary for the customer to have a device compatible with VoIP technology to be used as a client of the service. For the connection to be established between 2 or more devices, there must be a server in the middle interconnecting these connections. By fulfilling these prerequisites, basic communication between clients/server is established and will allow communication between the devices.

What is VoIP?

Voip or voice over IP is a communication protocol used for voice transmission by currently popular communication applications, such as Whatsapp, Skype, Facebook, among others. It is what makes it possible to transmit a voice conversation to these applications.

VoIP is also an abbreviation for the English term Voice over Internet Protocol, that is, Voice over the Internet Protocol, which is nothing more than the transmission of calls over the Internet network as data, digital transmission, and not in analog signal in waveforms as it was in the old analog telephone network, called the PSTN network (public switched telephone network).

Although this technology gained prominence after the 2000s, the idea and projects of voice transmission over the data network emerged in the early 1990s, which was when the Internet began to grow and gain everyone s attention. However, at that time, networks and data transmission technologies left a lot to be desired, as at that time it was not possible to achieve quality data transmission at good speeds, so this idea did not grow as quickly, giving it more space 10 years later. In Brazil it only started to appear more strongly after 2010, where in the coming years it should grow absurdly due to the various advantages it has.

Even with the growth in the use of VoIP technology solutions, old analog networks are still widely used, as there is a legacy of infrastructure from this old network installed out there. In order to complete a call from a VoIP phone to a PSTN public network phone, it is necessary that at some point the analog signal be converted to digital. In this case, the call travels partly on a VoIP telephone network (digital) and partly on a PSTN telephone network (analog), which still brings with it a slightly higher cost for its use.
